Kaitlin Merck is a native of Habersham, Georgia where she attended Habersham Central High School. Ms. Merck graduated from Georgia College and State University in 2017 where she received a Bachelor of Music Education with a minor in Creative Music Media. Ms. Merck studied flute under Lisa Barthalow and trumpet under Jay Davis and Marueen Horgan. She participated in the wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, percussion ensemble, brass ensemble, and flute ensemble.
As a trumpet player and conductor, Ms. Merck performed for three years with Atlanta CV Drum and Bugle Corps and for one year with the Seattle Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps.
Ms. Merck served as the Director of Bands at Social Circle Middle and High School for four years. She conducted the SCMS beginning band and concert band along with the SCHS symphonic band, jazz band, and marching program. Under her direction, her band’s consistently improved every year and earned superior and excellent ratings in all marching and LGPE events. Her students regularly attend and place well at local honor bands, District Honor Band, and All-State Band. Before her tenure at Social Circle, Ms. Merck began her teaching career as the Beginning Band Director and the Assistant Director to Baldwin High School’s marching band in Baldwin County, GA.
Her professional affiliations include Georgia Music Educators Association, Professional Association of Georgia Educators, and the National Association of Music Education.
Ms. Merck resides in Covington where she enjoys being an active member of community bands, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
